          Traditional metronomes

Virtually every single piece of printed music has a time signature on it and very many have a tempo value written on them as well. To keep to the beat accuratey and to play at the speed the composer intended, a metronome is highly recommended. The traditional mechanical metronome works with a wind-up mechanism and the speed is adjusted by sliding the weight up and down the beater arm.

Metronome with no bell. This marks the time with its clear click.

Metronome with bell. In addition to the adjustable speed of the click, these metronomes have another lever marked with the main time signatures which you can select by sliding it in or out. The bell marks the beginning of the bar, so 3:4 time would sound ding click click, ding click click etc.

The majority of the metronomes we sell are made by the metronome specialist Wittner and have a German precision-made Maelzel mechanism which keeps very accurate time.
