This is a great value ukulele - fantastic at the price - but it was let down by black nylon strings. So, our ACU-250's are now re-strung in our workshop with Worth clear ukulele strings, as standard. They suit this instrument much better than Aquila, with a great warm, well projected tone. Once upon a time we used to sell this uke with the factory fitted strings and from time to time, people would request we fitted Aquila strings to them. But to be honest, on this particular model they just don't work, they don't even improve the tone over the black nylons. With strings it is very much horses for courses, and the right horse for this course is Worth!

Taking the low price into consideration, this Aria ACU-250 concert ukulele must be in with a shout as the best ukulele for sale in the UK in terms of value for money. It is unheard of for a uke in the beginner ukulele price bracket to have all solid mahogany tonewoods. This is not just a solid top concert ukulele, but the rest of the body is solid mahogany too. Usually you have to pay a vast amount more for this specification, so it really is the best ukulele specification of any concert ukulele at this price.

The Aria ACU-250 concert ukulele is nicely made and finished, and looks fine with a bright mahogany stain and black binding. The set up is decent, with a nice low action, but not a low enough action so that the ukulele strings buzz against the rosewood fingerboard or nickel frets. The Aria ACU 250 ukulele also has good quality geared ukulele tuners and the tuning is stable once the strings have settled in.

We're struggling to think of any other alternative answer to the question 'what is the best ukulele' that you can buy for this price. It looks neat, plays nicely and has a lovely ukulele tone.
