The Fishman Kula preamp and sonicore pickup combination is a very popular active ukulele pickup, used by many big brands on their ukes, including Lanikai, Gretsch and Fender. It is specfically designed for the ukulele, with a small footprint, solder free installation and a long battery life.

This is the variant called KUL-201, which operates with two CR2032 coin cell batteries (not included!), which is the best option for ukes to keep the weight down (there is a 9V battery version but it makes the uke a bit body-heavy). The Kula pre-amp occupies a space 5cm by 4cm. It has three bands of EQ, as well a volume control and a built in digital tuner. The output jack panel is 38mm square.

The Kula system is one of the better mid-range active pickups, and is regarded as producing a good representation of your ukulele's tone. Although there is no soldering required, installation may be best carried out by a professional, unless you really know your way around your uke's innards!
