When we first got this into stock, we got it out to play, we swiftly had to put it away again - such was the heart-racing excitement that threatened to overwhelm us! Quite simply, this professional tenor electro ukulele blew us away. While it has a nice acoustic tone, it is the RMC electrics that make this stand apart from other tenor electro ukes, a long, long way apart. The performance is immense. Yes, the Godin Multiuke is somewhat special.
In fact, there is a danger here that this description could continue to be a series of compliments and superlatives, so it might be wise to get some background info and facts and figures in first. The Godin multiuke is made in Canada, with a chambered mahogany body in tenor size. This sunburst model has a solid spruce top, rosewood fingerboard and bridge, custom voiced electronics and an onboard preamp with 3-band EQ.
This Godin multiuke tenor electo has no traditional soundhole, producing no feedback when plugged in - while the chambered design allows the solid top to resonate. Unusually for a uke, there is a double function truss rod, allowing you to adjust the actin, although it is perfectly set up with a comfortable low action along the entire scale length - so no need to get your hands dirty if you don't want to!
There is a beautiful high gloss finish and the superb Canadian build quality is evident in this perfect finish. The Godin Multiuke is fitted with D'addario Titanium ukulele strings. Possibly these wouldn't be most people's first choice, but given it sounds wonderful - who is to argue! It has a Tusq nubone nut, a satin neck which is very comfortable and smooth and the 1.375" nut width is slightly wider than some ukes, giving plenty of space to hit the right points on the 17" scale length. Everything about this Godin ukulele just screams quality, right down to the pretty design on the reliable, sturdy open, geared machine heads.
There are four sliders on the uke's top, controlling volume, treble, middle and bass - giving plenty of range to the sound this Godin multiuke can produce. Acoustically, it isn't all that loud - as you'd expect with no soundhole - but the tone is nice and it is perfectly audible for practice. Everything about the pickup and EQ is high end and when plugged in, the sound is amazing - with a perfect balance across all four strings. With the four controls and the superb quality of the electrics you can shape many, many different sounds - making this perfect for recording. And the lack of any sort of feedback means it is also ideal for performing, as you can really turn your amp up high without distortion or interference.
As a final point, the Godin multiuke has an extremely well made, super padded Godin gig bag, which as bags go, is as good as they come. So while the overall price is high, you do get a superbly crafted tenor electro ukulele, absolutely top of the line pickup and EQ, a lovely gig bag and you also get to see the envy on the faces of any ukulele players you know!
