This is a good quality Kala KA-TE tenor ukulele. It is well made, with a laminate mahogany body and has an active EQ for amplification. The Kala KA-TE electro tenor has UK-300TR electrics fitted, which include volume, bass and treble controls. A great feature of this easy to use unit is the built in tuner, which is such a handy thing and ideal for those uke players who tend to lose their clip on tuners!
The KA-TE ukulele is plain, nicely made and looks smart, without being fancy. The ivory style binding looks nice against the mahogany grain, but other than that - it is devoid of fancy bits! However, it looks fine, and when you play it, the tone is better than expected. It has Aquila strings fitted which project a well balanced tone very well.
The Kala KA-TE has a tidy rosewood fingerboard and bridge, very durable chromed, closed geared machine head tuners with metal buttons and nicely dressed frets on a 17 inch scale length. There are fret position markers on the fretboard and the edge of the neck. The nut and saddle are nubone, simulated ivory - which gives more of a ringing tone than the plastic equivalents that you see on many cheaper ukes. The width at the nut is 1 3/8". The action is decent and the neck profile is very comfortable, making for a nice playing experience.
All in all, this is a good, affordable electro tenor ukulele. In terms of its visual appeal, it is no frills, but the build quality is good, hardware is good and the tone is very strong for this kind of price range. The electrics fitted are the same as the higher end Kala electro ukuleles and work very well. And the build in tuner is just so handy you'll wonder how you ever did without it!
