This Makala MK-CE is incredible value for an electro concert ukulele. Simply unbeatable value when you consider that Kala's entry level ukuleles are really very highly regarded. And with good reason too when you look at the MK-CE, a really smart looking uke which sounds better than its price tag would suggest.
The Makala MK-CE is, unsurprisingly, based on the MK-C, which is one of the world's bestselling concert ukes. Add an under-saddle pickup with tone and volume controls and you have a really nice little uke with lots of potential at an incredibly good price.
The body of this Makala electro concert ukulele is made from Agathis wood, which has an interesting streaked pattern underneath the rich brown semi-gloss finish. With the rosewood fingerboard and bridge it looks really good, quite dark and handsome! There are black nylon strings fitted, which sound suprisingly good with the Makala MK-CE. You can certainly get an even better sound with Aquila or Worth, particularly in tuning stability, but first you should try it with the factory-fitted strings as the tone is strong and well balanced. It shouldn't sound as good as it does!
The geared machine heads are sound, and the controls for the pickup are clear, easy to use and effective. The signal delivered to the amp is good and clear and free from interference. With this amplified performance, the visual appeal and the quality of tone, this Makala MK-CE concert electro ukulele is up there with the best value ukuleles produced to date.
