This is a maple wood student descant recorder, using the standard baroque fingering, which is used by all schools in the UK. It is actually made in Germany and branded "Stagg"

The wood is naturally seasoned to prevent cracking and the mouthpiece contains cedar which is quite moisture-resistant.
This recorder has strong low notes for an economy instrument. The advancing student should also consider the Moeck 'Flauto Rondo' which has a good all-round tonality. While  recorder has full low notes, it isn't quite as satisfactory a performer at the higher end of the scale.
