This is the BK-20CE, a solid mahogany top cutaway electro baritone ukulele from Ohana. Equipped with a Belcat active EQ with built in tuner, it gives you a very pleasant tone with the option to plug in. This baritone ukulele has good quality geared tuners, a rosewood fretboard and bridge and a bone nut and saddle.

The BK-20CE has GHS strings, which in acoustic terms are a little weak on the treble side. We'd suggest choosing one of the available string upgrades below, which will mean during the set up of your ukulele, we'll fit your chosen strings for you. When amplified, the dominance of the bass notes is not at all an issue, and the balance of the tone is impressive - with a bassy background to delicate and distinct high notes. Even with the string shortcomings the tone is warm, smooth and flowing - and string upgrades really get a lot out of this very nice instrument.

On the EQ controls there is a handy, accurate chromatic tuner - almost a bonus for those who regularly lose theirs (we are guilty of doing this at Omega!). If you do lose this tuner, you'll have lost the uke too - so you won't feel so bad, as the tuner won't be needed! There are bass, treble and volume controls to allow you flexibility in altering the Ohana BK-20CE's voice.

The Ohana BK-20CE electro baritone looks nice, without perhaps being a stunner. The wood grain of the mahogany is very nice and the satin finish looks and feels natural. There is white binding which adds a nice touch, together with a simple soundhole rosette. The cutaway shape not only adds a bit of visual flair but particularly with classical play on this baritone uke, the extra access to the top of the scale is very welcome. The width of the nut is 38mm and the scale length, 52cm.

Overall, this is a very nice ukulele, nice straight from the off - and with the potential to be even better with a change to the strings. It is nice to look at and nice to play. It is nice. Yes, nice is a good word to describe it. This model used to come with a Shadow pickup, but this Belcat unit is an improvement and the amplified tone is crisp and controlled.
