This is lovely looking, interestingly designed and well made Ohana ukulele, the vintage style CK-28. While the first thing that jumps out at you is the looks, it actually performs extremely well - with a strong tone that is full of warmth. That said, when picked it sounds really sweet and delicate, making it really versatile. With the fingerboard sitting flush to the uke, there is nothing to catch your fingers on when strumming, and the all solid mahogany body really powers out a full and rich tone. Switch to picking and you can pull out some lovely sweet high notes. All in all, the Ohana CK-28 is a very nice sounding uke.
The shape of the Ohana CK-28 is very pleasing, with a thinner 'waist' than most concert ukes. Then there is rope binding, which is very intricate and striking. This appears around the soundhole, around the top and bottom of the all solid mahogany body and up the neck to the headstock. The 14 fret rosewood fingerboard has pearl markers on the 5th, 7th, 10th and 12th frets, and the headstock is fitted with Gotoh friction pegs. With Aquila strings fitted, the tuning is nice and stable - while the brightness of these strings cuts through the warmth of the mahogany to add balance to the ukulele's voice.
The Ohana CK-28 is very pretty to look at, nice to play and really hits the spot when played - delivering a great vintage tone to go with its fantastic appearance.
