The Omega Zedro III is our own ukulele, made to our design and specifications. We wanted to make a ukulele with a good specification, with easy playability and a rounded, full tone. To this end, we used solid cedar for the top and gave the factory the instruction that intonation accuracy was critical.
This tenor ukulele is a strictly limited edition, with only 40 being made. Each has a handwritten, numbered and signed label. Although there will be further Omega brand ukes, this particular one will only ever be made in this quantity.
Just out of personal preference, we chose not to adorn the Zedro III with 'in-your-face' abalone inlay, preferring to use natural wood to add beauty to the instrument. The solid cedar top is a honey yellow colour with a smooth satin finish, and blends in perfectly with the unstained mahogany neck. But while solid cedar adds richness and a rounded tone - the visual star of this soprano uke's construction is the bold zebrawood back and sides. Each Zedro III is uniquely patterned with this fantastic looking wood. There is dark hardwood binding, and Japanese Worth brown strings are fitted as standard.
The Omega Zedro III tenor ukulele has a rosewood tie-type bridge, with a rosewood fingerboard. This is visually matched by a dark stain given to the custom-design headstock, on which the Omega name is subtly etched. Fret markers are in position on the fingerboard and the neck, and at the 12th the markers are accompanied by a small Omega logo inlaid in abalone. Not over the top, but just enough to catch the light and give a pleasant display of colour.
Our Omega Zedro III has good qaulity chromed geared tuners, each with very tactile non-slip coated black buttons. Although the mechanisms are enclosed, they can be tightened via the screw on the button itself.
The solid cedar top delivers a pleasant rounded tone, which develops into warmth, once the initial bright attack from the Worth strings is over, making each note stand out against a background of rich, full sound. Delivering plenty of volume when you want it, but delicate subtlety when required, the sound of the Omega Zedro III can be delicate when picking, or bold and full when strumming.
In case you are wondering, Zedro means cedar, but handily has the beginning of zebrawood in it too.
