Also known as Slit drums or Gato drums, the hardwood top is cut to form ' tongues'. These are hit with the rubber- headed beaters (supplied) to sound different tones. They are not 'tuned' to any specific note and they are not as resonant as ,say, a xylophone bar, but they do give a very pleasant variation to any rhythmic drumming.
As with most wooden instruments it is advisable to store away from strong sunlight or damp conditions.
